‘Towing the line between humorous adventure and dystopian nightmare.’
— Dr Dylan Phelan (editor)
Copper Hollow is my debut novel, written with my co-author and friend R.Finn. We are both so excited to get to share our gaslamp speculative fiction novel with you!The Wright Orphanage is a beacon of hope for automatons; mechanical people inhabited by the minds of the dead and used as slaves. Amelia knew it wouldn't be easy running the old place. None-the-less, it is her duty — a fact she is relentlessly reminded of by her robotic great-grandfather. But her naïve efforts to save those whom others would turn away quickly places her and her loved ones in the crossfire of a criminal feud. For in the city of Cinderbury, life is as grey as the smog that chokes the streets, its gangs are relentless, and people are so rarely who they appear to be.
I grew up near the Lickey Hills, where the hobbits live and there’s a troll under every bridge. I stepped into adulthood in Ireland, a place where myths and legends linger at the edges of everyday life.My childhood was spun from fairy tales and impossible adventures, with a mother who could craft magic from thin air. After losing her so young, I clung to stories and art as a way to keep her fire burning.I’ve always loved strange worlds: the whimsical, the heart-breaking, the ones that stitch together the fantastical and mundane. Many of those worlds now live in my head. So, I’m writing them down, and I hope you’ll find something worth keeping in them.
